Let me begin by saying I'm a huge fan of Harry Potter, and have been since 4th grade. I feel that this book not only does the series justice, but it also allows huge fans- like myself- to get a better understanding of the Harry Potter series.Roger Ward's book has a chapter dedicated to each book, and each chapter deals with a theme that the book has. For example, my favorite chapter is the third, which focuses on the 3rd book, The Prisoner of Azkaban, and the theme for the book is "trust and truth". The chapters are laced with so much interesting facts about the story and Rowling, but it also has plenty of philosophy- which I appreciate.
I am a student of Roger Ward's, and I can assure you that he wrote the book with passion and wisdom that he is eager to share with Harry Potter fans every where.
I've read a few other books that deal with explaining and understanding the Harry Potter series, but this one by far is the best. Perhaps it is because I have a strong love of philosophy, or (more probable) because Roger Ward clearly has done extensive research on a subject matter he loves.
It's a very quick read- I read it in a matter of hours- and a very interesting and exciting one. I suggest anyone who loves Harry Potter to read it. It has allowed me to appreciate the Harry Potter books in a new light, and also has helped me remember why philosophy is so cool.

Roger Ward does a great job connecting Harry Potter and philosophy in ways that the average reader wouldn't expect. After reading this, I can appreciate Rowling's work in ways I had never imagined. I recommend it with five golden stars and I'd add two more if I could.
